About the Laura Signs

Amir Omar came out first and had signs all over town. Then Laura Maczka signs started popping up all around town. On my way home last night I noticed some changes. There seems to be more to the story.

As I was driving down Waterview south from Campbell, I noticed there were hardly any Laura Maczka signs. The previous week there were tons of signs all the way down to Beltline. At first I thought maybe there were some games being played. Then over the past few days, a few people had told me some interesting things.

Three people told me that a neighborhood leader was walking the streets putting out signs for Laura. He would meet and greet the neighbors he saw out and ask them if he could put a Laura Maczka sign in their yard. The three people I talked to didn’t really know much about what was going on in the mayor’s race. None of the three really had a preference on which they were going to vote for.

After a little bit of time went by, all three of them ended up pulling up their Laura signs and stashing them somewhere.

One of the three really had no intention of voting and probably will not vote.

However, the other two did make a choice to vote, and it wasn’t for Laura. They cited the Richardson Coalition mailer. That mailer has probably done more damage than any other thing in this election. It has probably also done more good for her than anything in the election, which is sad.

But getting back to the point, it seems there are a lot of signs being place in yards where the people really don’t know Laura and it is done to help with advertising more than anything else. It is to promote an image. Hey, that is just normal politics.

On Waterview where just a few weeks ago there were probably 20 or more Laura signs, I just barely counted a handful. Signs it seems don’t really mean a vote. People just don’t want to get disagreeable over politics with their neighbors.

Who is going to win the election, I don’t know. I think it will be close. I think it will work to Amir’s favor with the higher the turnout happens to be. I will just go flip a coin and make my call for the election based on who wins the coin toss.

As for who actually deserves to win based on rational analysis of actions while on the council, there is no doubt.

  1. I thought you were going to say they had polling data and moved them to a different part of the city.

Fortunately no one needs to know how we vote as long as we get out and vote.

This is an historic election. The first time the folks in Richardson get to direct elect their Mayor! Everyone should want to be part of it.

  2. As I commented before, someone put Laura's sign in our neighbor's yard while he was on vacation, without his permission!

I did block walks for Amir, but would NEVER put his sign in the yard of someone who didn't explicitly give me permission to do so. It's just unbelievable someone would do that without the resident's permission.

Another neighbor removed Laura's sign from his yard, but then after I asked him why you removed it, he put it back. Sorry, my bad...
