Only Contest Race- The Mayor's Race

There won't be much of an election this year. The only race that is contested in the mayor's race.

But the drama in that one race will make up for the lack of drama in the other races.

  1. There is only one race to vote on. There is no reason to vote on uncontested seats.

  2. Would love to see Calcutta on who among the Council gets the fewest votes. Might be indicative of the esteem held of them by the public.

  3. I am not a big local politics guy, but I am already getting tired of all the Amir Omar signs on EVERY street corner. I spoke to someone that I trust and they said he posted them before the filing deadline for other candidates and that's why no else has signs out.

That kind of got me a little torqued so I started digging a bit. Omar has only been a homeowner in Richardson since 2011 and that was after a failed primary in Dallas in 2006, TX 30th District.

I don't know him personally, but I think you should have to live in a community for at least 5 years before you run for Mayor. Seems to me that he has a greater PASSION for higher office than he does for Richardson.

I'll watch with an open mind... BUT enough with the signs, already. If I was a teenager still, most would have a mustache and beard on them by now!!!

  5. What's wrong with posting signs before the other candidates file? This is democracy in action. Maybe you want him to run with one arm behind his back?

I don't know what Amir's motivation is, but do you know anything about Laura's motivation? As far as we know, she's the candidate of the establishment and status quo, of which quite of a few us are sick.

Some people post here saying they don't support Amir, but they also have problems with Laura. What do these people want? These are the only candidates we have. No other choice.

Those who aren't happy with either candidate should have run for mayor themselves!

  6. P.S. Laura ran an ad in the Jan/Feb issue of Richardson Living before the filing candidate. That's quite all right with us.

  7. If you think that someone should live here five years before running for mayor then change the charter. Further, Amir Omar has lived here about five years. He ran in 2009 and would have had to been here a year before he filed. That makes him living here some where in the first half of 2008. If you don't like free political speech then there are quite a few locations in the world that can accommodate your desires.

Laura ran that ad in Richardson living and Richardson living has a pretty serious lead time for printing. That means she decided to run, took actions well before she announced, and while she was saying "I'm exploring options."

I'm not thrilled with either candidate. Saying "well you ought to run" is dumb. Does that mean someone who recognizes presidential candidates might both be flawed should run? Should I be a dallas cowboys coach if I think their entire staff is bad?

There is nothing wrong with saying that Richardson isn't producing top tier leadership. There is also nothing wrong with saying that one reason is the Richardson Coalition. I have voted for their candidates in the past but now they have outlived their usefulness. They are supporting mediocre and just plain dumb people so that they may keep power.

  8. Alan Boyce - Laura is getting he signs out now. You can get tired of hers too.

You can laugh about Amir's great big head, but you know what he is up to. Mayor's race. Laura's sign is kind of strange with her husband and kids all blurred out. Drive by one fast and you can see what I am talking about. Creepy.

  9. Amir has lived in the community for five years. He first ran in 2009 and had to have minimum residency to run for election. That would put his latest arrival date in 2008 and that would mean he has lived here about five years.
